Deleting your Verdict account

Last updated: 28 August 2026

Two ways. The first takes about ten seconds and needs nothing from anybody; the second is for people who no longer have the app.

From inside the app

  1. Open Verdict.
  2. Tap REMINDERS in the header.
  3. Scroll to THIS RECORD and tap DELETE THIS RECORD.
  4. Confirm. It happens immediately.

There is no waiting period and nothing is queued for review. The account and everything attached to it is gone by the time the screen changes.

Without the app

If you have already uninstalled it, or the phone it was on is gone, open an issue:

To have an account deleted this way you must show that it is yours, with one of these:

Requests are actioned within 30 days, and in practice within a few.

Why a display name is not enough

A display name is visible to other players — it appears beside your result every time a case closes. Accepting one as proof would mean that anybody who saw your name could have your record destroyed, which is a far worse failure than deletion being slightly harder. So it is not accepted on its own.

This is the cost of collecting nothing. There is no email address on file to send a confirmation link to, because the app never asked for one. It cuts both ways: it is why an anonymous account is hard for anybody else to find, and why it is hard for you to prove is yours after the fact.

Deleting it from the app, while you still have the app, is by far the surer route. It needs no proof and no waiting: the app is already signed in as you, and the server takes no account name to delete — only the one making the request.

What is deleted

This is permanent. None of it can be restored afterwards, by you or by anybody else, because none of it is kept anywhere to restore from. If you play again you begin as a new reader with no history.

What is not deleted, and why

When a case closes, the app shows how everyone answered — that forty-one per cent named the night watchman, and so on. Those are counts held against the day, not against a person: there is no column recording who contributed which, so there is nothing of yours in them to remove, and nothing in them that could identify anybody if there were.

Anything already on your own device goes when you clear the app's data or uninstall it. That is yours to do and does not wait on anyone here.

Deleting only some of it

If you would rather keep the account and remove only your findings, or only your display name, say so in the issue. That is a smaller request and an easier one.

Questions

Anything about this page, or about what is held in the first place, belongs in the same place: the issue tracker. The privacy policy sets out what exists before any of it is deleted.
